Director of Bands – Dillion Ingle

Dillon Scott Ingle was raised in Kings Mountain, North Carolina, and graduated from Kings Mountain High School. He received his Bachelor of Science in Music Education from Western Carolina University in 2008. While at WCU, he studied under Dr. Mario Gaetano, Bob Buckner, and Matt Henley, and was drum captain with the Pride of the Mountains Marching Band.

Mr. Ingle began his professional teaching career in Brownsville, Texas where he spent three years, followed by two years in San Benito, Texas. For five years as an assistant director, his duties included working with concert, symphonic and marching bands, as well as overseeing the percussion program of each school.

In 2010, he became a co-founder of Genesis Drum and Bugle Corps from Austin, Texas. For five years, Mr. Ingle served as the Percussion Caption Head, where he both taught and helped facilitate the summer tour. Currently, he is Genesis’s front ensemble supervisor.

Mr. Ingle moved back to North Carolina in 2013 to continue his education, and completed his M.A in Music Education in 2015. As a Graduate Assistant at WCU, he conducted the Wind Ensemble under the direction of Dr. West, the Symphony Band under the direction of David Starnes, and the Percussion Ensemble under the direction of Dr. Gaetano.

Mr. Ingle is now the Assistant Band Director at Tuscola High School, in Waynesville, North Carolina. He is an educational endorser for Salyer’s Percussion in Houston, Texas, and is in demand as a percussion arranger, teacher, and clinician.

Assistant Director of Bands – Andrew Shelton

Mr. Shelton is a native of Weaverville, NC and alumnus of North Buncombe High School. He received his Bachelor’s Degree in Trombone Performance from Mars Hill College and a Master’s Degree in Music Education and Trombone Pedagogy from Columbus State University, Georgia. Mr. Shelton has also studied at the New England Conservatory and Aspen Music School. His teachers include Dr. James Sparrow, Dr. Bradley Palmer and Dr. Per Brevig of the Julliard School.

As a trombonist Mr. Shelton has performed with the Asheville Symphony, Hendersonville Symphony, Aspen Festival Orchestra, and was full time second trombonist with the LaGrange Symphony from 2008-2010. Mr. Shelton can be heard on recordings with the Summit Brass and the Columbus State University Wind Ensemble. He has recorded with such names as Phil Smith, principal trumpet of the New York Philharmonic, Chris Martin, principal trumpet of the Chicago Symphony, Larry Zalkind, Principal Trombone of the Utah Symphony, Robert Sullivan, Principal Trumpet of the Cincinnati Symphony, and many others. Being involved in many solo competitions Mr. Shelton won first prize in the 2007 International Trombone Association Larry Wehie Competition.

As an educator Mr. Shelton has worked with numerous programs throughout North Carolina and Georgia, has taught undergraduate courses at Columbus State University and served as Low Brass instructor at UNC-Asheville. Under the direction of Mr. Shelton ensembles has earned superior ratings in marching, concert and jazz.  The North Buncombe High School Jazz Band performed at the NCMEA In Service Conference in 2014 and the North Buncombe Wind Ensemble performed at the President’s Cup Invitational in 2017. Mr. Shelton and his wife Kathryn currently reside in Swannanoa, NC with their dog Moe.
