Fireworks and Fun

A big thank you goes to the Waynesville community and to the many Marching Mountaineer fans who turned out to view the Lake Junaluska fireworks celebration from the Tuscola HS parking lot the evening of July 3!

Families of all sizes and lots of their friends and neighbors had loads of fun, food and fellowship from 6 to 10 pm, topped off by Lake Junaluska’s fabulous fireworks celebrating America’s Independence. Over 225 carloads of Tuscola Band fans and supporters (likely well over 1000 people) attended. Thanks to all for helping the Band meet and exceed it’s fundraising goals for the event!

Please enjoy these images from the evening. We look forward to seeing everyone for the fireworks again next year!

2024 MPA Concert Performance – Superior!

Tuscola’s Symphony Band delivered their 2024 MPA (Music Performance Adjudication) concert at Mars Hill University the evening of March 19, 2024. Their program included these three energetic and fun, but difficult, musical selections:

Sol y Sombra by George Gates,

Little Mexican Suite – Movement III by Nubia Jaime Donjuan, and

Rhapsodic Celebration by Roger Sheldon

The MPA judges awarded their highest commendation – Superior! – for Tuscola’s performance of those pieces and for their “sight reading” of music they were seeing for the first time.

Congratulations to all Tuscola Symphony Band members, their Director – Mr. Dillon Ingle, and to everyone who supports the Mountaineer Bands’ continuing success.

Tuscola’s Symphony Band on stage at Mars Hill University: 2024-03-19

The annual Music Performance Adjudication (MPA) for concert bands is conducted by the Western District of the North Carolina Band Masters Association. The 2024 MPA concerts featured thirty-three High School and twenty Junior High School/Middle School concert bands from all across Western North Carolina.

Mountaineer bands participating were: Tuscola Symphony Band, Waynesville Middle School 8th Grade Band and the Waynesville Middle School 7th Grade Band.

Accomplishing a superior rating took lots of practice. The Tuscola Symphony Band students “took it to the woodshed” and gave a pile of challenging music a “whipping!”
